Some of the poems were powerful, but mostly this feels more like a book of Instagram memes than a book of poetry。 It also feels incredibly rooted in an irritating white feminism -- rarely intersectional and deeply tied to a capitalist paradigm。

4 stars and she does it again, I love this woman。 I honestly do not care if this is ''poetry'' or not, i just know that these are beautiful sentences on paper that make me adore women and myself all the more。 I find comfort and acceptance and power to heal amongst these women and I know that these are not some glorified fictional version of women, these are real women。 They are my sisters。 My flesh and blood。 The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because I think Amanda has better work a 4 stars and she does it again, I love this woman。 I honestly do not care if this is ''poetry'' or not, i just know that these are beautiful sentences on paper that make me adore women and myself all the more。 I find comfort and acceptance and power to heal amongst these women and I know that these are not some glorified fictional version of women, these are real women。 They are my sisters。 My flesh and blood。 The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because I think Amanda has better work and this one just didn't connect with me that deeply。 I love women, I love witches and I love myself。 (and that is not egoistic) 。。。more

It was meh。This is the first poetry book I have read, and I'm not impressed, it's extremely lacking, soulless, dull, with very weak vocabulary, repetitive ideas through almost all of the book。 It was more like tumbler quotes rather then poetry。And oh how different it is compared with Arabic poetry (although I argue that there is no comparison at all, Arabic poetry is it's own different world)。هذه المرة الأولى التي أقرأُ فيها كتاباً شعرياً بالإنجليزية، لا أدري ما المعايير التي تحكم على مدى صلاحيت It was meh。This is the first poetry book I have read, and I'm not impressed, it's extremely lacking, soulless, dull, with very weak vocabulary, repetitive ideas through almost all of the book。 It was more like tumbler quotes rather then poetry。And oh how different it is compared with Arabic poetry (although I argue that there is no comparison at all, Arabic poetry is it's own different world)。 。。。more

Es un libro super crudo y fuerte pero muy real, cada poema me dejaba la piel de gallina。 Me encantó

This is definitely not the best poetry i’ve ever read #girlboss。 But It has a special place in heart because these books helped me so much when I was younger ❤️

I think the message of the book was great and I agreed with everything she said but this just wasnt poetry and if it was supposed to be it was very very lazy poetry

I liked the first book in the series better than this one just because that is where I am in my life right now, but still I loved this book。 The anger and impatience bled from every word and page, but it was also not attacking men for something they haven't done。 I never felt like the anger was unjustified。 I related to everything in this book。 Would most definitely recommend。 I liked the first book in the series better than this one just because that is where I am in my life right now, but still I loved this book。 The anger and impatience bled from every word and page, but it was also not attacking men for something they haven't done。 I never felt like the anger was unjustified。 I related to everything in this book。 Would most definitely recommend。 。。。more

a bad book with some good poems。 i stand with her, however, in the struggle。 despite it being adored by many white libfems, it's mainly intersectional。 yet the bad writing and clichés make it difficult to enjoy。 a bad book with some good poems。 i stand with her, however, in the struggle。 despite it being adored by many white libfems, it's mainly intersectional。 yet the bad writing and clichés make it difficult to enjoy。 。。。more

DNF at 26%。 I just can't with this one anymore。 Maybe it doesn't help that I was listening to the audiobook (and let me tell you, this was not a great first foray into audiobooks), but I just。。。didn't like any of this? Maybe it would have been better if I read it, but even then, sometimes the way Lovelace wrote about certain themes bothered me。 And while I appreciate when authors read their own work for audiobooks, something about the way Lovelace read it was grating to my ears。 It wasn't worth DNF at 26%。 I just can't with this one anymore。 Maybe it doesn't help that I was listening to the audiobook (and let me tell you, this was not a great first foray into audiobooks), but I just。。。didn't like any of this? 3 stars — i enjoyed this one (partially) but i did definitely like the first one better。 it felt like a lot more life-honesty from the author。i love seeing stories of female empowerment, of women realizing the fire and magic within them—but i also feel like in this poem collection, it was a narrative that felt very repetitive。 almost overdone。 with the exception of a: a few of the more unique girl-power ones i loved and b: the ones about the legacy of poetry i found to be really good… they allll 3 stars — i enjoyed this one (partially) but i did definitely like the first one better。 it felt like a lot more life-honesty from the author。i love seeing stories of female empowerment, of women realizing the fire and magic within them—but i also feel like in this poem collection, it was a narrative that felt very repetitive。 almost overdone。 with the exception of a: a few of the more unique girl-power ones i loved and b: the ones about the legacy of poetry i found to be really good… they allll felt like just the same piece about “f*ck men, women have fire”would have been much better if these pieces delved farther into things like embracing and exploring femininity itself, healing from misogynistic impact, and celebrating the uniqueness in being female rather than just reusing and reusing the “we were burned as witches, now we set them on fire” thing—because that’s a good metaphor, and i liked it, but that shouldn’t have taken up the whole 200 pages…not when there’s so much more to feminist poetry that could have be explored well here, within the witches metaphor even。 overall, missed the mark for me because of the repeats and focus on one particular topic versus going into the way more that was possible for a feminist piece。 but good concept and i did like the writing。 。。。more

2½ stars。 Even more angry than the previous book, and that was quite。。。 overwhelming。 I'm not fond of the generalization of women and how they're treated and I really disliked the many repetitions in several of the poems。 2½ stars。 Even more angry than the previous book, and that was quite。。。 overwhelming。 I'm not fond of the generalization of women and how they're treated and I really disliked the many repetitions in several of the poems。 。。。more

Some great poems but a lot of man rage I don’t feel, so it lost my interest at times。

Witchcraft and feminism, she had the perfect elements to write a bewitching collection of poems。 Nevertheless, Lovelace wasted whole pages repeating the same phrase over and over again, and called it poetry (which I disagree)。 Using repetition endlessly isn't a great execution of literary devices。 By this I don't mean that Amanda hasn't improved as a poetess, on the contrary, there was an evolution reflected in her prose。 I assume my expectations were too high。 Witchcraft and feminism, she had the perfect elements to write a bewitching collection of poems。 Nevertheless, Lovelace wasted whole pages repeating the same phrase over and over again, and called it poetry (which I disagree)。 Using repetition endlessly isn't a great execution of literary devices。 By this I don't mean that Amanda hasn't improved as a poetess, on the contrary, there was an evolution reflected in her prose。 I assume my expectations were too high。 。。。more

the audiobook version is narrated by the author, and it took quite a lot of getting used toi truly loved a LOT of this, but my actual rating would be 3。5female power is absolutely amazing, the concept was amazing, maybe if i get my hands on a physical copy it’d be a different experience

If poetry read like this in high school, I think I would have enjoyed it way more than I did! I need to get more of her books because I really enjoyed her poetry。 So raw and true, empowering words for women, no matter your age really。 I understood it and was able to chew on it。 It gave food for thought and it validated so much for me。 I really enjoyed her writing and am looking forward to the next one!
